The handlers of Japanese fighter Daiki Kameda (15-2, 11 KO's) are set to protest Kameda’s loss to Thailand’s Denkaosan Kaovichit (48-1-1, 20 KO's) who retained his WBA flyweight title by a controversial majority decision last October 6 and are demanding a rematch.
The 20 year old Kameda battled the 33 year old Thai title holder Denkaosan in Osaka with two judges - Silvestre Abainza of the Philippines and Levi Martinez scoring the fight for Denkaosan 115-113 while the third judge, Sergio Cruz scored it even at 114-114.
Siam Sport reported that Noriyuki Igarashi, head of Kameda's gym, said he would submit a protest to the World Boxing Association as he believed Kameda should have won the fight.
Igarashi said “We cannot accept the result, as Kameda was leading for three rounds. We will send the video record of this fight to the WBA immediately.”
He is also looking to have the association order a rematch. WBA supervisor Alan Kim said he would help push for a rematch within this year.
