It was announced by Main Events today that a light heavyweight bout between Oleksandr Gvozdyk and Isaac Chilemba would be part of the HBO pay-per-view undercard on November 19th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward headline.
As for Curtis Stevens (28-5, 21KOs), the hard-hitting middleweight that is represented by Main Events, matchmaker Jolene Mizzone told Boxingscene.com on Thursday,"As of right now I'm going to be putting him on the undercard off-TV.
Stevens, on May 7th, blew out Patrick Teixeira in two rounds on the Saul Alvarez-Amir Khan pay-per-view bill.
When asked why this appearance will not included on the pay-per-view broadcast, Mizzone explained,''because I couldn't find the right opponent that would fight him for TV. There was nothing out there to justify the TV portion of the pay-per-view."
It's been a bit of a chore to find Stevens fights against marquee middleweights. There was talk of him facing David Lemieux in the fall but those talks fell through. Main Events would rather keep him active than waiting around for a significant fight.
"At this point it has become difficult because of the type of fights he needs to have at this point in his career to get to that next level,"said Mizzone."I can't put him in with Mickey Mouse and move on but it's not going to do anything, right now, I have to keep him busy."
