Yesterday a press release was circulated in which IBF welterweight champion Randall Bailey had a few choice words for Kevin Cunningham, the manager and trainer of his October 20th opponent Devon Alexander.
When Bailey pulled out of their September 8th fight which caused the date and venue change, Cunningham immediately said that Bailey had faked the injury and needed more time to prepare for the fight.
In the press release Bailey took exceptions to those comments and responded with this statement:
"I'm not playing any games. Nobody has ever given me anything. I've earned everything I've done. I wanted this fight to happen as soon as possible; I don't have another five years left in my career. I'm the one who said to make this fight in the first place. Cunningham's way out of line; I guess they wanted me to fight a guy with a cane, wearing a neck brace. There was never a question that this fight would not take place."
Cunningham gave BoxingScene a short response to Bailey's statement.
"I see that my comments have motivated Bailey and his team. Let's hope the Old Fart doesn't throw his shoulder out or something before the fight," Cunningham replied.
