Junior welterweight prospect "El Pollo" Alex De Jesus (19-1, 13KOs) rolled the dice by facing an undefeated fighter in his home country and he crapped out. Cesar Rene Cuenca (36-0, 1KOs) won a controversial unanimous twelve round decision to capture the WBO Latino junior welterweight title in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I noted a few days ago that Cuenca had fought his entire career in Argentina and it was in De Jesus' best interest to get a knockout and not allow the fight to go to the cards. De Jesus rocked Cuenca a few times and appeared to win a good number of rounds by throwing the harder punches and making the fight. Cuenca boxed well in the mid rounds but he gave up the early rounds and De Jesus put up a very strong showing in the second half. Somehow all three judges had Cuenca winning by decent margins of 116-112, 117-113 and 118-115.
Cuenca, the man with "1" knockout win, moves forward with his unbeaten record and a regional title.
