Former world champion Carlos Cuadras is still working hard with the prime focus being a rematch with countryman and World Boxing Council super flyweight champion Juan Francisco "Gallo" Estrada.
Before the coronavirus pandemic broke out, the Estrada vs. Cuadras rematch was being put together by Zanfer Promotions and Matchroom Boxing, who co-promote Estrada.
"I am waiting for the confirmation of the date and I continue preparing for the rematch against 'Gallo' Estrada. There have been talks and I'm waiting for the confirmation of what my promoter tells me. It is a fight that I want because I want to be the WBC champion again ," said Cuadras to Esther Santillán.
In the first bout, which too place on September 9, 2017, Estrada won a close twelve round decision after dropping Cuadras in the tenth round.
The knockdown was enough to give Estrada the edge to win the decision with three scores of 114-113.
In his next fight, Cuadras lost a close twelve round majority decision to McWilliams Arroyo. Cuadras won his next three fights in a row, although he had a tougher than expected time in winning a ten round majority decision over Jose Cardenas in September of last year.
After their first meeting, Estrada also lost his next fight, with a ten round majority decision loss to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. Estrada has won his last four, including a rematch win over Sor Rungvisai.
Cuadras expects to be better the second time around.
"In this rematch I know that I will not fall into my own mistakes and that I should not stand still and I won't be lured into the type of fight that Juan Francisco wants," Cuadras concluded.
