Carlos Cuadras vowed that his 115 lb. title would not leave his birth town of Guamúchil, Mexico. To a degree, the recently crowned champ lived up to his word, though settling for a second straight cut-shortened bout.
The action was plentiful for as long as the bout lasted, but with Salgado's skin barely holding up. Both fighters were letting their hands go, but it was Cuadras who turned the tide big time with a power punching display in round three.
With a war developing, the fight came to a sudden end in round four when a clash of heads left Salgado with a cut inside his left eyelid. Time was called for the challenger to be examined, but the wound was deemed too severe to continue.
Because the fight was stopped prior to the end of round four, the official verdict is a technical draw.
Cuadras is now 30-0-1 (24KOs). The Mexican banger won the title in similar fashion, taking a technical unanimous decision over Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (who won in Thailand earlier this weekend) this past May.
The bout aired live on Televisa.
In the televised co-feature, Irma Garcia managed a 10-round unanimous decision over Brazil's Simone da Silva Duarte.
