Anthony “Million Dollar” Crolla, 29-4-2 (11), has told the Manchester Evening News that he is undergoing a medical on Tuesday and will announce his next opponent at a press conference on Wednesday provided he is cleared to box by the BBBoC.
"I'm feeling great and honestly believe that I will come back better and stronger than ever before,” he said when speaking to Alex Hibbert.
The 28-year-old was attacked after foiling a pair of would-be burglars just before Christmas, leaving him with a fractured skull, a broken ankle and shattering his world title dreams—the injuries meant he could not challenge Richar Abril for the WBA lightweight belt in January.
Abril set up a contest with Derry Mathews, who holds a win over Crolla and fought to a draw with him in their rematch, but withdrew from the mooted bout, prompting the WBA to strip him and make Mathews versus Tony Luis for the interim belt. Mathews won on points to take the title and is open to a third meeting with Crolla.
“It's not nice what happened but at the end of the day it could have been worse, if I had been hit differently I might not be here talking to you,” added Crolla.
“I'm going to the hospital on Tuesday and then hopefully will get the all clear from the British Boxing Board to get back in the ring. After that happens I should be announcing the date of my next fight on Wednesday, I am hoping to be able to tell you who I'll be fighting too.”
