Former champion Cristian "Diamante" Mijares (48-7-2, 23KOs) wants a shot at the new WBC super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (25-0-1, 15KOs). Mijares lost a controversial split decision to Victor Terrazas earlier this year and wanted a rematch aftwards. They fought for the vacant WBC title and Mijares scored a knockdown in the twelfth and final round, but ran out of time to put Terrazas away. Santa Cruz demolished Terrazas in three rounds last Saturday night to capture the belt.

"I expected Terrazas to win. I have a grudge with him, but if Santa Cruz is the new champion - I hope to measure myself against him. Let's see what happens," Mijares said.
