Fresh from his 50th win as a pro, former champion Cristian Mijares (50-8-2, 25KOs) hopes to land a world title shot at WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez. Mijares was impressive in Cancun, with a seventh round TKO of Sebastian Rodriguez (20-7). It was Mijares' first victory since losing a twelve round decision to WBC super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz earlier this year.

"Johnny is a big, strong fighter who hits hard as we could see, but I see myself having a chance [to win]. I have the qualities to make a good fight and embarrass him. And that's why I'm just asking him for the opportunity. I'm not making any type of silly challenge. I would be honored to face him. He has three outstanding options with Golden Boy Promotions, with whom we have a very good relationship with," Mijares said.
