Mexico's Cristian Mijares retained the super flyweight crown of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), with a twelve round unanimous decision over Nicaraguan challenger Carlos Rueda. The fight headlined a night of boxing at Palenque de la Feria in Durango, Mexico. Mijares used his boxing ability and ring intelligence to have extensive control over the Nicaraguan challenger. It was a relatively easy first defense for Mijares, who won almost every round with scores of 120-108, 120-108 and 118-110. Mijares raised his record to 42-6-2, 18 knockouts, while Rueda falls to 16-5-1, 13 knockouts.
