Southern California based boxing manager Ricky Mota has advised BoxingScene.com that he has signed blue chip prospect Cristian "Chimpa" Gonzalez (3-0) to a multi-year managerial contract. Gonzalez is the youngest brother of former champion Alejandro "La Cobrita" Gonzalez who captured the WBC featherweight title by handing Kevin Kelley his first career defeat and also won the IBA lightweight title.
Mota also guides the careers of former two-division world champion Giovani Segura, prospect Pedro Duran, La Cobrita's 20-year-old son Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. (22-0-2), and several others.
Cristian Gonzalez campaigns in the featherweight division and Mota feels that he has all the tools needed to become a future champion. He also revealed that his newest client will return to the ring on April 5th in Tijuana on a fight card that will be headlined by Segura against an opponent to be determined.
"Cristian is destined to become a champion. It's in his blood. His brother stopped Kevin Kelley and his nephew Cobrita Jr. is on his way to becoming a champion. He has all of the skills necessary to make it to the top. I am very excited to have him on my team," Mota told BoxingScene.com
