Brian 'Bomac' McIntyre, the co-manager and trainer of WBO junior welterweight champion Terence Crawford, is starting to soften his stance on a potential fight with eight division champion Manny Pacquiao (58-5-2, 38KOs) on November 5th at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
This Saturday night from the MGM Grand, Crawford battles WBC titlist Viktor Postol in a unification. Promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank has stated that the winner of this bout will be a frontrunner to fight Pacquiao.
In a recent article that appeared on BoxingScene.com, Pacquiao's adviser, Michael Koncz, said Crawford was NOT in the running, never has been in the running and won't be in the future.
“We have not agreed on anything yet, he has been very busy with his Senatorial duties,” Koncz told scribe Mike Woods. "I will not make comments until authorized by Manny. We have not agreed to anything and if we fight again Crawford is not even a thought and never was.”
A few days ago McIntyre spoke with BoxingScene.com's Steve Kim and fired back with the following:
"No, f***'em, he had his chances. They said they weren't even thinking about us, we weren't even in the equation. I think an article came out last week or something like that where Koncz..... he said,'They weren't even in the running.' Now you want to fight us? No, go about your business," the manger told BoxingScene.com.
"Its principle and pride because I felt like they strung us along the first time. They strung us along. Now after Terence whips Postol's ass they want to put Pacquiao in front of us? No, go one, get somebody else."
But now McIntyre seems a bit more open to the fight, although he's cautioned the press that his main focus right now is Postol
"You guys keep talking about Pacquiao like he's going to get in the ring and take Postol's place. First we have to take care of Postol, and if Pacquiao is on the table then we'll get his ass," McIntyre said. "I've been sized him up. I know how to beat him, but is the fighter going to go in there and do what you tell him to do. My thing is with fighters, you coach a fighter along with the scenario. But you may get popped in the mouth and say 'I'm not going to that side anymore."
