New York, NY - WBO junior welterweight champion Terence Crawford was in the running to face Manny Pacquiao in April of this year. A fight he eventually lost out to his friend Tim Bradley.
Crawford then turned to Plan B, which was was a February 27th date in New York at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden. Names like Mauricio Herrera, Viktor Postol, and Ruslan Provodnikov were mentioned but his opponent is the outspoken Hank Lundy.
Crawford’s coach Brian “BoMac” Mcintyre said it was simple, claiming that Lundy was the only one that wanted the fight.
“Lundy is the only one that stepped up and accepted the fight,” Mcintyre told BoxingScene.com. “I commend him for that. It takes a lot of balls to step into the ring with a two time world champion. We had 12 names on the table and after a week or two, Cameron Dunkin said Lundy, and we were like fine. We weren’t going to turn him down. That’s what we got, let’s do it.”
Mcintyre says that the above mentioned names had a reason or two for not wanting to fight Crawford.
“I got that from Top Rank that they didn’t want to fight him,” Mcintyre explained. “Provodnikov didn’t want to fight him. Herrera said there wasn’t enough money or enough time. Postol wanted a few fights in between. Lundy’s name came up and that’s what happened.”
