Terence Crawford has done his best to navigate his career through a sea of dubious voices and perpetual chastisement. At the age of 34, Crawford boastfully walks through his palatial estate with countless world titles littered in every room.
While proud of his achievements, Crawford’s resume has been closely observed and mostly dissected in the public eye. Even now, with the WBO 147-pound crown tucked safely underneath his arm, Crawford, through no fault of his own, hasn’t faced the stiffest of competition.
Still, despite the ongoing debate surrounding his accomplishments, Crawford is widely regarded as one of the best fighters in the world, a distinction that’s also shared by unified welterweight champion, Errol Spence Jr.
After years of both fighters fulminating over who should be regarded as the man to beat at 147 pounds, the pair appear closer than ever to meeting in the ring. As first reported by Mike Coppinger of ESPN, both Crawford and Spence have agreed to terms to an undisputed welterweight showdown that could take place on November 19th, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
If contract negotiations continue to go well and Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) manages to snag a victory against the powerful southpaw, the win for Crawford will mean much more than simply signifying his second undisputed title run.
Having listened to his naysayers downplay his accolades and dismiss the legitimacy of his opponents, Crawford suspects that his skeptics will be left speechless if he becomes the first man to defeat Spence come fight night.
“I feel like, this is the fight where it leaves no doubt whatsoever about Terence Crawford and his skills, his career, it leaves it all to rest,” said Crawford on Top Billin’ with Bill Bellamy.
Although unofficial, terms of their pending agreement have come to light. In addition to November 19th, being the targeted date, both parties will have the opportunity to enact an immediate rematch. Also, per Coppinger, Crawford has agreed to receiving the short end of the financial pie, a former sticking point to making their mega showdown a reality.
