Terence Crawford has had a helluva career. The kind that will eventually land him in the Hall of Fame when it’s all said and done. No matter the weight class, Crawford has managed to pick up a world title and reign over a given division for a protracted period of time.

The proverbial cake that represents his career is layered and well-glazed. However, come July 29th, against Errol Spence Jr., Crawford will have the opportunity to add one final ingredient to make his career a perfect one.

“It means everything,” said Crawford during a recent presser. “This is gonna put the cherry on top of my career.”

Spence, of course, is a euphemism for what Crawford desires most, boxing history and immortality. Defeating the current IBF, WBA, and WBC welterweight titlist comes with the sort of praise that Crawford has been longing for. Once the now 35-year-old officially made the move up in weight in 2018, he first targeted Jeff Horn. Nine one-sided rounds later, Crawford nabbed yet another world title in his third weight class.

Although he was anxious to face any of the division’s top names, Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) placed a brazen target on the back of Spence (28-0, 22 KOs). Constant fulminating in the public eye, paired with Crawford repeatedly calling out his man, led him absolutely nowhere.

It’s been well over five years since Crawford stomped into the division. While he could revisit old wounds and wonder why it took their clash an incredibly long time to come to fruition, all of that is now water under the bridge. With everything on the line next Saturday night, Crawford simply can’t wait to hurl the first punch in Spence’s direction.

“I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time. I can’t wait until Saturday to get it on.”
