NEW YORK – Terence Crawford clearly doesn’t like Hank Lundy.
According to those close to Crawford, the unbeaten WBO super lightweight champion thinks Lundy crossed decency lines when Lundy talked trash about Crawford’s family members while trying to land a fight against him. Lundy’s brash approach had irritated Crawford to the point Crawford didn’t want to share the same interview room with Lundy on Tuesday before the press conference to officially announce their February 27 fight in The Theater at Madison Square Garden (HBO).
They eventually sat a couple tables apart, but Crawford made his disdain for Lundy known.
“I don’t even wanna talk about Lundy,” Crawford told BoxingScene.com. “I don’t even wanna mention dude’s name. He’s a big-mouth guy that runs around thinking everybody’s scared of him. I’m not scared of him at all. He’s going to wish he never talked his way into the fight.”
The 28-year-old Crawford (27-0, 19 KOs), of Omaha, Nebraska, is heavily favored to defeat Philadelphia’s Lundy (26-5-1, 13 KOs) in their HBO “World Championship Boxing” main event. The 32-year-old Lundy is 4-4-1 in his past nine fights, including a pair of 10-round defeats to fighters Crawford soundly defeated within the past 13 months – a split decision against Thomas Dulorme and a majority decision against Ray Beltran.
