Terance Crawford is hoping that his fight against Errol Spence Jr. is so nice they run it back twice.
Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) and Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) will clash on July 29 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Showtime pay-per-view.
There is also an immediate rematch clause outlined in the contract that allows for the loser to activate a sequel within 30 days of the fight. It’s all but guaranteed a rematch will take place, but the terms around the second installment are still not known.
One major sticking point, for starters, is what weight the fight would take place at.
Crawford and Spence are fighting for welterweight supremacy, but both fighters have yet to answer outright if a rematch would take place instead at 154 pounds.
Despite the fact, both boxers have promised throughout the promotion to beat the brakes off each other.
“I'm just excited. Come July 29 everything will show,” Crawford told BoxingScene.com and other reporters. “Hopefully the fight is great enough to be deserving of a rematch. Hopefully, we can do it again. My main focus is July 29.
“I think it will be a fast pace. We're both going to try and take charge and that's what will make it an exciting fight.
“I think he will try to box and bang, smother me, and walk me down. For the most part, I think it will be a mixture. I'm preparing for all avenues real well.”
By the time Spence steps into the ring, he will have had a nearly 16-month layoff since stopping former world titleholder Yordenis Ugas.
Crawford is not anticipating Spence to have ring rust, especially considering his previous history and incredible recovery from a near-death car crash and retina surgery.
“He's been inactive, but it's not the first time. I'm not banking on his inactivity in the ring to benefit me in any way. I'm looking to face the best Errol Spence that there is,” said Crawford.
“We’re letting each other know it's time. There's no more talk. There is no more wrong side of the street. We're both here. This is that moment.”
