The pride of the Scottish is ready to make a big splash in 2008. Currently living in California, trained by Freddie Roach and represented by Golden Boy Promotions, former Scottish amateur middleweight Craig McEwan (9-0, 6KOs) is ready for big things in the New Year.

Speaking with The Scotsman, McEwan says Golden Boy head Oscar De La Hoya is going to place him in eleven bouts throughout 2008. Should McEwan stay healthy and keep winning, he should see ring action on a monthly basis and finish off the year with a 20-0 record.

"De La Hoya told me after I out-pointed Contreras that his plan is for me to have another 11 fights all over the USA in 2008 with opponents of gradually increasing class and then a world title fight either in late 2008 or early 2009," McEwan said. "Oscar has already arranged step one of that ambitious world title plan as I will have my next bout in Chicago on Burns Night, January 25, and he further informed me my opponent will be yet another step up in class."

Besides boxing, McEwan has put his foot in the Hollywood door, doing some minor action while trying to build his resume in that field.

"I've gone pro there too as an American TV extra and I co-starred with world-rated Filipino super-featherweight Manny Pacquiao, in a TV advert for Nike sportswear and enjoyed that and the dollars it brings immensely," McEwan said. "Let's face it, I'm in LA, home of Hollywood and the American media industry, so I aim to develop that side of my career especially as my promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, has strong connections within the Hollywood film scene."
