In a recent interview with Puerto Rican media outlet WIAC 740, WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (32-0, 25KOs) spoke about the status of the negotiations to finalize his bout with former three-division champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley, scheduled to take place on Nov. 10 at New York's Madison Square Garden.
"We almost have the fight complete. Everything should get taken care of with Mosley. If for some reason it doesn't happen, we will look for another opponent," Cotto said. "But, the person I really want to fight is Shane Mosley."
A few other future opponents were mentioned, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya and WBC welterweight champon Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
Not much was said on the first two, but Cotto had some choice words for Mayweather, who took plenty of shots at Cotto during some of his past interviews.
"Mayweather has based his life on doing what did in the fight with Oscar De La Hoya - to run. He will run when he faces me. Mayweather and his team know who Miguel Cotto is. No matter how much they underestimate me, no matter what they say about me, they know the level and the quality of a fighter like Miguel Cotto. When that fight is made, everyone is going to see it. It will be a great victory for Puerto Rico", Cotto said.
