WBC middleweight beltholder Miguel Cotto has not been in the ring since he defeated Sergio Martinez last June in New York winning the middleweight championship. Cotto felt the time off was needed and says he feels like a brand new Miguel Cotto.

“Physically I’m fine,” Cotto told media members at his open workout. “Every part in my body that was hurt is healed. I’m fresh, I’m new and come Saturday Everyone will see that.”

As the questions came in, Miguel Cotto was Miguel Cotto, not looking ahead and focused on Saturday's defense against former three time champion Daniel Geale at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

“I’m not focused on Canelo or Golovkin,” Cotto said. “The only guy in my mind right now is Daniel Geale. It’s the only thing I can think off. After next Saturday, we can talk to everyone about options.”

Even when one brought up the name Floyd Mayweather, the answer was the same.

“My best opportunity is the one I have with Daniel Geale. I feel better rejuvenated, I feel like I can beat anyone in boxing right now.

Should Geale come in over the 157 lb. catch weight, people in Cotto’s camp have said that there are other options. Cotto was not concerned with that and feels that Geale will make the contracted weight.

Some eyebrows were raised when Geale stepped on the scale last Saturday at the WBC's mandatory seven day weighin, and came in at 167.5 - 10.5-pounds above the catch-weight limit. But Cotto expects Geale to honor his deal.

“We had a contract that said 157 lbs. and that’s what I expect from him.”
