The battle to see who is the best Puerto Rican welterweight is set to take place on December 2, at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. WBO junior welterweight champion Miguel Cotto moves up to the welterweight limit to take on fellow undefeated Puerto Rican welterweight Carlos Quintana. A press conference to officially announce the fight has been set for October 3 in Puerto Rico, with another taking place on October 4 in New York City.

The bout is for the vacant WBA welterweight title, which Ricky Hatton vacated after deciding to move back down to the junior welterweight division.

“I already reached an agreement (financially) and am only hoping that the contract arrives to sign it,” Quintana said to Endi. “I hope that people from our country don't see the fight in a bad light because two Puerto Ricans are fighting, and that everyone sees it from the point of view of the title remains in Puerto Rico.”

It was reported that Cotto traveled on Sunday to Los Angeles with trainer Evangelista Cotto, to check out the Velocity Personal Training Center, where Erik Morales has been working towards making weight for his trilogy bout with Manny Pacquiao in November.
