The new WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto is back in his country of Puerto Rico. Quoted by Golzka, Cotto said he would speak with his team and Top Rank, who promote him, to figure out the next fight in 2010.
There is interest from Top Rank to make a Pacquiao-Cotto rematch if the company is unable to make a fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Pacquiao knocked out Cotto in twelve rounds last November to win the WBO welterweight championship. Their fight took place at a catch-weight of 145-pounds.
When asked if he would make Pacquiao go up to 154, or fight him at 147, Cotto replied - "I want the big fights. I'll speak with my team and we'll make a decision [on] what's next for Miguel Cotto. If the big fight is here [at 154], or 147, it's no problem."
Pacquiao-Cotto would draw more interest if the fight is held at junior middleweight because the promoters would use Pacquiao's quest for an eight divisional crown to market the event.
