Trainer Emanuel Steward is expecting the best Ricardo Mayorga (29-7, 23KOs) on March 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayorga will challenge Steward's boxer, Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28KOs), for the WBA junior middleweight title. Mayorga has a reputation for not taking his training camps seriously and often struggles to make weight. This time Mayorga is training very hard. Mayorga has not left the gym since the training camp for December's fight with Michael Walker.
"Based on all of the reports that I've received, he's training in the gym like never before. Mayorga is very focused. He spent his Christmas training. Since he beat Walker, he hasn't left the gym. And, when he was in Puerto Rico, everyone could see how proud he was of his physical condition. He is very focused on winning this fight and he's going to arrive in his best physical condition, according to everything I have heard," Steward said to Jose Sanchez.
