WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto will not sit around to wait for a potential fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. He views the upcoming fight with Antonio Margarito, scheduled for July 26 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, as the fight to crown the best welterweight in the world.

Speaking with MaxBoxing/BoxingScene.com's Steve Kim, Cotto says he will march forward - refusing to become another fighter calling on Mayweather for a fight.

"I think people everywhere have said that the winner of this fight (with Margarito) will be the best welterweight champion. I don't have to call for Floyd Mayweather. He has to know what he has to do," Cotto said. "I'm here to face all of the big names in boxing. If Floyd Mayweather doesn't want to face me, it doesn't matter to me. I have to continue with my career."

Regarding the size difference between him and Margarito, he is not intimidated. He predicts a big battle to play out in July.

"I faced a guy of his size when I was at 140, Kelson Pinto. I'm pretty conformatble with my height, I don't need any more inches to handle Margarito. When you have two guys that like to fight, put pressure on their opponents, you will have a battle," Cotto said.
