Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York - This union between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto- and trainer Freddie Roach is working out quite nicely. In his third consecutive fight with Roach, Miguel Cotto has looked sensational getting his third straight stoppage in as many fights. Cotto credits Roach with the resurgence of his career after suffering back to back defeats.
“Freddie is the mastermind behind everything I did for the last two years,” Cotto told BoxingScene.com. “He’s the best thing I ever could have in my career.”
Cotto says along with bringing him love to the sport, it was the confidence Roach instilled in him that has been the most important factor in the revival if his boxing career.
“He just brought the confidence I lost after dealing with two losses in a row the first time in my career,” stated Cotto. “He brings the old Miguel back and he’s the reason Miguel is here right now.”
Whatever happens next one thing is clear, Cotto listens to Roach maybe more than he did with any other trainer. He did it last night and will do so for the future fights for the rest of his career.
“The plan was follow Freddie’s instructions all the time and we just did it,” Cotto said. “As for the future, we need to sit to Freddie and me what’s going to be the best for us.”
