Miguel Cotto ,who had planned to meet up with trainer Freddie Roach by mid-April, has decided to move forward his original training date so he could work alongside “Fighter of the Decade” Manny Pacquiao who is in the final stretch of his preparation for the much-awaited rematch with WBO welterweight champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 12.
The World Boxing Council reported that Cotto who is scheduled to fight WBC middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez at New York’s Madison Square Garden on June 7 “decided to move up the date so he can train with Mnny Pacquiao at the Wild Card Gym.”
The WBC noted that this is the second time Cotto will work with Roach. The first was for his last fight when he easily stopped Delvin Rodriguez last October.
The WBC quoted Cotto as saying - “I trust Freddie with my life. We will work hard every day and we hope not to have problems. Freddie knows how to get the very best of me for a great performance in the ring.”
Roach said Cotto will travel to Las Vegas to be with Pacquiao and will then return to Los Angeles to continue training at the Wild Card Gym.
In his last stoppage victory, Pacquiao scored a 12th round TKO over Cotto in November 2009.
