WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto knows the end of his career is closing in. He anticipates his career to continue for at least two years at most. Before his considers retirement, he would like to avenge the only two defeats on his record - to Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao. Margarito stopped Cotto in eleven rounds in 2008, and Pacquiao stopped the Puerto Rican star in the twelfth round of their 2009 bout.

One piece of the puzzle is coming together. The rematch with Margarito is being discussed for July 16 with Las Vegas as the likely setting. Once the loss to Margarito is avenged, Cotto would like to face Pacquiao in 2012.

"I have a a year or two left [in boxing]. I want to do other things. That's the plan [to avenge my defeats], but we are waiting for a meeting with [Top Rank] to see what's next. They can present a date, but until something is signed by my hand - there is no fight. But as soon as something happens, the public will know. We are always ready to face the biggest names, and yes Margarito is one of them. I understand that a fight with Pacquiao could be a possibility for next year and for that there is still time," Cotto told Lester Jeminez.
