Las Vegas, Mandalay Bay - Alberto Machado (12-0, 10KOs) crushed Tyrone Luckey (8-5-2, 6KOs) in the first round. Luckey went down twice in the first, and was being battered when the referee stepped in to wave off the fight.
In a battle of unbeaten junior bantamweights, Jose Martinez won an eight round unanimous decision over Oscar Mojica. Martinez (16-0, 11 KOs), from Puerto Rico, landed the more effective punches throughout the bout. Mojica (8-1, 1 KO) pressed the action, but Martinez countered consistently with uppercuts to the head or hooks to the body. Sensing he was down in the final round, Mojica pressed the action, but Martinez kept his distance. All three judges scored the bout 78-74 in favor of Martinez.
Massive Chinese heavyweight Zhang Zhilei (5-0, 3KOs) had to get off the floor in the final round to win a four round unanimous decision over Juan Goode (6-2, 5KOs). All three judges had it 38-37.
Zhilei needs a lot of work. He was sloppy with his punches and his defense had some holes. Goode found one of those holes in the fourth when a wild shot dropped the giant on his back. Zhilei beat the count and was rocked once again a moment later, but never allowed Goode to land anything further of note.
To start off the card, super featherweight prospect Hector Tanajara Jr. (4-0, 3KOs) wiped out Jose Fabian Naranjo (3-2-1, 1KO) in the first round. A straight right hand clocked Naranjo, who went down to his knees and remained on the mat for the referee's full count.
