It is being reported that a deal was struck this past Monday for a unification showdown between lightweight champs Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo. Apparently the deal has hit a snag that may end the prospect of the bout coming off at all. The bout was to unify the titles for a huge Showtime televised card on December 4, 2004.
Everyone had agreed to the initial terms and signed the paperwork for the fight to happen. The deal fell apart just moments before the press release for the fight was about to get sent to the media. The fight is now in jeopardy because James Prince, manager of Deigo Corrales, said Chico wants more money to fight Castillo
The problem is there is not enough money to give Corrales over the agreed upon amount. Showtime had only so much money to go around in their budget and due to this financial snag, the fight may not come off.
Corrales and Castillo were both rumored to be getting 1million dollars each for the fight to happen. The only way that the fight will happen is if Castillo takes a smaller split of the money. Personally, I don't think Top Rank will let Castillo take a smaller slice of the pie and this fight will not go foward unless Showtime throws in more money or Corrales agrees to the terms.
