Cornelius White's team announced that, effective Sept. 1, White has been released from his contract with Goosen-Tutor Promotions. White's manager Ken Richardson said the parting of ways was mutual on both sides.

"I asked to be released," White told Boxingscene.com, citing differences of opinion between boxer and promoter over the direction of White's career.

In June, White (21-2, 16 KOs) lost via third-round TKO to Sergey Kovalev (22-0, 20 KOs) in an IBF title eliminator. Kovalev went on to win the WBO title by stopping Nathan Cleverly (26-1, 12 KOs) in the fourth round last month.

With his contractual obligations annulled, White said he is willing to face any of the top contenders at 168 or 175 pounds. White and Cleverly were initially supposed to face each other and White said he hopes to see that matchup revived.
