WEBER'S FUTURE IS ON THE LINE.

This Friday night at the Gund Arena in downtown Cleveland, Craig Weber of nearby Perrysville will put his career on the line. Literally !Weber takes on the only man to defeat him in the professional ranks when he faces Rogelio Castenada. A victory will keep Weber among the fringe of the top contenders for the 140 lb. title. A loss could cause possibly unrepairable damage to his career.

I still have not quite figured out why Weber was matched with Castenada again. Craig gained a real boost in stature when he upset Angel Manfredy earlier this year. A win over Castenada will only erase the blot on Craig's record. If it moves him up in the ratings, it will be a minimal increase. If Weber loses ? Well that is a whole different scenario. A very damaging one at that.

Any move that Weber made to prove he was a legit contender after whipping Manfredy will go right out the window. Many are saying now that Weber beat a shot Manfredy, a shell of his former self. I admit Manfredy is in the twilight of his career but he was still a competent, ex-challenger for world honors. Any positive press Craig received after he beat Manfredy was well deserved. Weber put on a fine performance.

I've never met Craig but I have talked to several people who have. I've never heard a bad thing about him. He is a dilligent trainer, a hard worker and a solid family man. I'm just afraid a loss this Friday night will send Craig back to the drawing board. Along with Kelly Pavlik and Tony Hanshaw, Craig is one of the best prospects in Ohio. I hope Craig wins. It is a fight he should win. If he can not defeat Castenada at this stage of his career, well...It may be time to move on. Good luck Craig !

Will It Be Cotto By KO ?

On the undercard of the Vitali Klitschko-Danny Williams "Title" fight, super prospect Miguel Cotto will meet former titleholder Randall Bailey. The best I can say is that Bailey should be afforded a puncher's chance. This Cotto kid is the real thing. There should be some interesting fireworks early on but from what I've seen of Cotto in the past, I can't see Bailey lasting five rounds.
