Subriel Matias won a controversial majority decision and swiped Alberto Puello's junior welterweight title Saturday at Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York City.
The combatants were separated by four or fewer landed punches in six of the 12 rounds. Puello landed 17 more jabs and five more power punches than Matias, while Matias held a 101-39 edge in body punches landed. One judge scored the fight a 114-114 draw, while the other two judges scored the fight 115-113, both for Matias.
