Clottey Targets Rematch With Cotto-Margarito II Winner

Joshua Clottey returned to the ring after a 20-month absence this past Saturday with a 2nd round knockout of Calvin Green on the untelevised undercard of the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. versus Peter Manfredo Jr. HBO televised headline fight that took place in Houston, Texas.

After the fight, Clottey (36-4, 21KO) told Boxingscene that he hopes to get a meaningful fight in his next ring appearance. The former welterweight champion will campaign in the junior middleweight division and hopes to face the winner of the Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito grudge match that takes place in two weeks.

Clottey lost a unanimous decision to Margarito in 2006 in a fight that he was winning on two scorecards before injuring his hand in the fourth round. He also lost a close split decision to Cotto in 2009 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Back to his winning ways, Clottey believes that he has what it takes to avenge both of those losses.

"I hurt my hand in the Margarito fight. A lot of people thought that I beat Cotto. That was a close fight. I would like the chance to fight either of those guys again," Clottey told Boxingscene.com.

The Ghana native feels that he will be even better now that he is campaigning at 154 pounds. Gone are the past struggles that came with squeezing down to 147 pounds and that he will be stronger now that he won't have to cut so much weight.

"It was getting hard to make 147. I feel stronger at 154 pounds. The fans will see the best Clottey at this weight," concluded Clottey.
