Former welterweight champion Joshua Clottey informed BoxingScene.com that money was only part of the reason for his withdrawal from the Michel Rosales fight, which was previously scheduled for January 16 at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas. Fox Sports/Fox Sports Espanol is televising the event.
Clottey was not happy with the money, but he was more concerned with his fight being televised on Fox Sports, because he considers himself an HBO fighter. Clottey was scheduled to fight Shane Mosley on December 26 on HBO but that fell apart when the network got cold feet over televising an event so close to the holidays. Clottey's HBO return was shifted to a co-feature spot on December 5 against Carlos Quintana. That fight also fell apart when Kelly Pavlik withdrew from the main event with Paul Williams.
Unbeaten junior middleweight Vanes Martirosyan has stepped in main event position on 1/16 and faces former champion Kassim Ouma. Clottey on the other hand wants to thank his supporters and wants them to look for him on HBO in the first half of 2010.
