It was reported by UK scribe Ron Lewis that IBF light heavyweight champion Clinton Woods may face former champion Antonio Tarver in May. Dennis Hobson, promoter of Woods, has held negotiations with Tarver and Roy Jones Jr., but said that Tarver is the preferred choice. The bout would take place in the United States.

Hobson said that Woods has fully recovered from arm surgery.

Although Tarver has not fought since dropping a one-sided decision to Bernard Hopkins last June, his leading role in the motion picture Rocky Balboa has kept his name in the headlines and made him a very recognizable figure all over the world.

Hobson feels that Woods will have little trouble in the fight, and said that a win over Tarver in the United States will be his fighter's big break to pick up fans outside of England.

“I have seen him lose to a 41-year-old [Hopkins] and then a 60-year-old [Stallone]. I think he’s got problems,” Hobson said.
