On the 5th of January, BoxingScene.com reported that the proposed bout between Nathan Cleverly (18-0 8KOs) and Antonio Brancalion (32-7-2 8KOs) was either postponed or off. While the date is still unclear, it now appears the bout is very much on according to our sources.
The reason for the delay is far from simple. While Brancalion's promoters won the purse bid for the bout, Hatton Promotions have allegedly bought the rights so that the fight could be staged in the UK.
However, here's the snag. Because they won the purse bid, the promoters of Brancalion have still got to ‘technically’ stage the fight, even if the Hattons are in reality doing everything regarding the contest. The only problem with that is that Brancalion's promoters don't have the appropriate license to promote in the UK; hence the delay until that is sorted.
