Nathan Cleverly and Tony Bellew toned down the aggression but continued to trade verbal blows as they met again at a press conference this afternoon.
The pair had to be separated at an event to promote their aborted light-heavyweight world title fight in May as bad blood spilled over.
Everything was rather more sedate in Liverpool today as the pair looked forward to their newly-arranged October 15 bout at the Echo Arena, but lingering enmity could not be hidden.
Welshman Cleverly, whose WBO light-heavyweight belt will be on the line, said: "I think the last press conference set up this fight but basically it is a fight I really want to get out of the way and then move on to bigger honours.
"Tony has always been six fights behind me. I am four years younger but I have always been six fights ahead winning all my titles - Commonwealth, British, European and world title.
"He is behind me. He can't quite accept that but he has to. Come fight night he will accept it even more.
"He is obviously dangerous - I suppose - but limited. He is a limited fighter and I think I will expose that."
The last fight did not take place after Bellew, called in as a late replacement for Jurgen Brahmer, failed to make the weight.
Cleverly, 24, who inherited the title when Brahmer pulled out, beat Aleksy Kuziemski instead but Bellew does not recognise him as the champion.
Liverpudlian Bellew, 28, said: "It's my belt. I want to take it now but I have got to do things by procedure.
"Things were said at that press conference - you can call me all the names you want to call me - but once I was told I was going outside that was when things got a little bit heated.
"He has calmed down a lot from how he was, and I think that is because he is intimidated by me.
"While I can't stand the sight of his chops and I can't stand some of the clobber he wears, I don't let it get personal.
"I don't let that cloud my judgement. It is business when we go in that ring.
"I know what is going to happen come October 15. I am going to walk out of that arena crowned a world champion.
"I will go through a brick wall, I will go through whatever it takes. I do not care. I am willing to die on October 15, no two ways about it."
Both fighters are undefeated with Cleverly having won all 22 of his fights, 11 by knockout, and Bellew winning all 16 of his with nine knockouts.
Promoter Frank Warren hopes the winner could go on to fight American veteran Bernard Hopkins, the WBC and IBO champion, in a potential unification fight.
Cleverly said: "My long-term ambition would be to unify the light-heavyweight division but it all starts by beating Tony Bellew.
"Before I push on I want to get the rid of everyone on the domestic scene.
"I have got the confidence to take this fight on knowing it is not going to damage my career. It is one of those fights that is a stepping stone.
"I am always confident, in this game you have got to be, but at the same time I will not take anything for granted.
"He could be potentially dangerous but that is why I am taking this fight seriously and I am going to win in style."
Since the last fight was called off, Bellew has beaten Ovill McKenzie for a second time to add the British title to his Commonwealth light-heavyweight belt.
Bellew claims he is not yet looking beyond Cleverly.
He said: "I don't profess to be ready for Bernard Hopkins or profess to be the best light-heavyweight in the world - but I do know how to beat Nathan Cleverly.
"What I am ready for is one-dimensional fighters, and that is what I believe he is.
"He is nuts. He is looking past me and has already under-estimated me.
"October 15 is going to be the sorriest night of his life.
"He has chosen to come to Liverpool and he is getting the best payday of his career because I generate media interest.
"He can't generate anything.What kind of champion comes to my hometown for his second defence?
"That is a champion that can't sell out his own back garden."
