In a report published by Wales Online, British light heavyweight star Nathan Cleverly revealed that he recently signed a new three-year promotional contract with Frank Warren. Cleverly, who defends his European title against Sergey Demchenko in late June, has his eyes set on fighting Karo Murat of Germany for the WBO title before the end of the year.
Cleverly told the paper he re-signed with Warren because he didn't want to follow the same career path as Amir Khan, who left Warren to sign with American-based Golden Boy Promotions. Cleverly believes Warren is the only man capable of bringing him to a major world title.
“I really believe Frank is the man to get me a world title shot,” Cleverly said. “I have been with him since the start of my professional career and in the last two years we have really stepped things up a gear. He is one of the best promoters in the world and he can push to get the right fights. I just have to keep showing I am worthy of getting a world title shot."
"He has already got me some bigger fights and title shots. I have managed to produce the goods and we have a brilliant working relationship. It’s gone from strength to strength recently and that’s why I have signed a new promotional and managerial contract with him. That shows my loyalty and vice-versa. Now I hope he keeps showing his faith in me. It’s working well so far and long may that continue.”
