Juergen Braehmer retained his WBA 'regular' light heavyweight title after stopping Robin Krasniqi inside 10 rounds in Rostock, Germany. Braehmer, 36, was made to work in the fourth defence of his title but after landing a barrage of heavy blows in the ninth the fight was waved off as his fellow German attempted to come out for the 10th.
Victory saw Braehmer extend his record to 46-2 (34 KO), while Krasniqi slipped to his fourth defeat as he was stopped for the first time in 47 contests.
Former WBO champion Nathan Cleverly was watching from the Sky Sports studios. Braehmer was previously scheduled to fight Cleverly in 2011 but pulled out with an injury and Cleverly claimed his WBO belt - and Cleverly won a decision over Krasniqi in 2013.
After a run at cruiserweight, Cleverly wants to return to 175-pounds and wants Braehmer.
"I’m told that fight can really happen,” Cleverly told Sky Sports. "I believe this fight is on the cards, so I’ve got one fight in me lined up and if I get through that I think it’s likely that myself and Braehmer are going to get it on. Lets see what the promoters can sort out now; Sauerland and Eddie Hearn can get together and really confirm this fight.
"But I know it’s been put in place, the seed has been planted and I’m ready, hopefully Braehmer’s ready. That’s the big question, will Jurgen Braemer really take me on, lets hope he does and I can rip that world title of him."
