Salita PromotionsClaressa Shields has targeted Welsh star Lauren Price after her decisive sixth-round win over Australian Kaye Scott.
Shields improved to 19-0 (4 KOs) after victory at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, dropping down from heavyweight to reclaim the WBA and WBC titles at middleweight.
“It was a hard camp,” the two-time Olympic champion admitted.
“I cut 38 pounds. I started 14 weeks ago at 198 and then I got down to 160.
“It was the most disciplined I've been since the Olympics.”
The bout was just Scott’s eighth fight and her corner threw in several towels to prevent her from sustaining further punishment after she’d been dropped in the decisive session.
Shields said she would be open to facing the undefeated Price – who is 10-0 (2 KOs) and unified welterweight champion – up at 160lbs, Canada’s Tamm Thiebault, also a unified middleweight champion and Mikaela Mayer, who first fights Chantelle Cameron on August 29 in England.
Thiebault recently won the IBF, WBO and Ring belts.
“She’s only had five fights as a professional, but she’s got belts,” Shields said of the Canadian. “It’s not my fault these girls don’t have the experience that I have. She’s got a belt that I know belongs to me – and that’s the Ring belt.”
