Thailand’s rugged Waengpetch Chuwatana says he wants his title back and is determined to pounce on OPBF No.1 and world rated Z “The Dream” Gorres from the opening bell in their battle for the vacant crown in Mandaue City on Saturday.

The former OPBF champion who lost the title in a controversial split decision to Japan’s Masayuki Arinaga who subsequently relinquished the title is an aggressive fighter who likes to bore in and throw punches from all angles and plans to use this tactic to put pressure on the flashy southpaw Gorres.

A veteran of 32 fights Chuwatana has a record of 14 knockouts in 23 wins with 7 losses and 2 draws and is coming off a first round knockout over countryman Petchnamnung Sor Tiebkoon last January 16. Gorres on the other hand put on an impressive showing to score a handsome ten round decision over tough Mexican Jose Alfredo Tirado last February 3 at the Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

The fine showing of Gorres as well as stablemate and WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight champion Czar Amonsot who scored a bloody eight round decision over hard-hitting Mexican Christian Favela has attracted the attention of prominent US boxing promoters two of them from the famed Golden Boy Promotions of Oscar De La Hoya will be at special ringside to size up the Filipinos and hopefully sign them up for fights in the US.

Well-known promoter Sammy Gello-ani said “while Chuwatana will be banking on his vast experience having had six OPBF title fights the skill and quickness of Gorres will be overwhelming factor that will ensure his victory.”

While the focus will be on Gorres who was picked by both Freddie Roach and Buddy McGirt as a future world champion, the fireworks may come in the supporting bout between Amonsot and another ferocious Thai Decho Bankluaygym who is a promising 20 year old with a record of 20-5-1 with 14 KO’s. In his last fight Decho scored a first round knockout over Payompol Phosuwangym on December 27.

The Gorres and Amonsot fights will be telecast on the top rated weekly boxing show “The Main Event” at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday over RPN 9, sponsored by Tanduay, the No. 1 Rhum. Two stunningly attractive Viva talents, 2006 Tanduay calendar girl Rene Summer and sexy bombshell Julia Lopez will serve as round girls during the big fights.
