THE former OPBF super flyweight champion, Waengpetch Chuwatana (23-7-2, 14 KOs), made a promise of taking back his title in the scheduled confrontation with stylish WBO No. 2 ranked Z Gorres (22-1-1, 12 KOs) on Saturday (Friday in the United States) in Mandaue City, Philippines.
“I want my title back,” Chuwatana declared upon setting foot on Philippine soil Tuesday night at the Mactan International Airport in Cebu.
International promoter Sammy “Don King” Gello-ani and ALA Gym Chief trainer Edito Villamor fetched Chuwatana, OPBF title holder from Feb. 2004 to March 2005, along with three other Thai fighters and their handlers, to arrive from their trip from Bangkok, Thailand.
Gello-ani admitted the 33-year old Thai hitman has the advantage in experience by being a former Thai super flyweight champ and has 3-of-6 records in OPBF title fights.
However, the well-known Bohol-native promoter revealed that Gorres must utilize his better skills and speed to match the seasoned Thai fighter when they tangle in the main event of the star-studded card at the Mandaue City Sports Complex.
“Gorres is now on the threshold of making a big impact in international fight scene and as such cannot afford to lose this fight. While it is true that Waaengpetch is more seasoned, the skill and speed of Gorres will be the overwhelming factor that will ensure his victory,” Gello-ani said in a statement.
Meanwhile Gorres and Chuwatana are set to size each other up for the first time in the Press conference to be conducted by the Golden Boy Promotions on Friday, March 17 at noon at the Cebu City Sports Club.
Also expected to meet before the Filipino media are Thai fighters Decho and Dechapol Bankluaygym, who will collide with WBO Asia Pacific super feather champion Czar Amonsot and unbeaten A.J. Banal, respectively, in non-title fights.
The vacant Philippine flyweight title is also to be contested between Rocky Fuentes of ALA Gym against Jojo Bardon of Wakee Salud Stable.
