Bayamon, PR - The NABO Jr. Lightweight Champion (130 pounds) of the WBO, Christopher 'Pitufo' Diaz (22-0, 14KO's) has bought in JRO Events Inc. to handle the management of his career.
"Thank God that in a short time I have managed to make several important movements in my team which will allow me to continue growing," said the 23-year-old boxer.
"I am very happy with the business move with JRO Events to manage my career. I know that now I have a team that supports me and have a genuine desire to work. Those are the things that keep me motivated and focused on what we really need to focus on. "
Meanwhile, José Orraca, President of JRO Events Inc., indicated that "we are very excited about the signing of Diaz, since we have a lot of plans for him. 'Pitufo' is the maximum rising star that Puerto Rico has, and that's how we have to take his career. We know that good things will be happening with this great athlete, who is also a even better human being. "
Diaz is training at the Monterey Boxing Club in Bayamón - preparing in New Jersey with Puerto Rican coach Raul 'Chino' Rivas. He is scheduled to return to the ring on Saturday, March 17 at the Madison Square Garden Theater from New York.
"We have been working hard with my coach 'Chino' Rivas," said Diaz, who last December conquered the NABO belt by dispatching Bryant Cruz in three rounds.
"It took us 3 to 4 months to fit the style of Rivas, but we managed to create a perfect chemistry. Rivas has a group of high-quality boxers in the gym, including former world champion Jason Sosa, with whom we keep working with. We are motivated and in a very positive environment. "
The Puerto Rican will make the first defense of his belt against Mexican Julio Barraza (17-1-1, 11KO's) in a fight agreed to for 10 rounds.
"Barraza is a fiery Mexican fighter, who is coming to try to take away what belongs to me. This is my weight and I feel much stronger at 130 pounds. They are going to see a more experienced 'Smurf'. I'm going to give a great show for all the fans and keep showing that we are ready to become world champion," Diaz said.
The fight will be presented as part of the undercard to the headliner between José Ramírez and Amir Imam, who battle for the vacant WBC super lightweight world championship.
