Ronnie Shields, trainer of Rocky Juarez (27-4, 19KOs), has informed MaxBoxing/BoxingScene.com that a deal has been reached for his fighter to face WBA featherweight champion Chris John (41-0, 22KOs) on September 13 in Las Vegas. The fight will be the co-feature to the HBO pay-per-view main event between Joel Casamayor and Juan Manuel Marquez.
John rarely leaves his comfort zone of Indonesia. He makes his American debut with the fight. The co-feature may set up a possible future rematch between Marquez and John. John won a controversial decision over Marquez in 2006 in Indonesia. Juarez has been inactive since his November decision loss to Marquez, and has a 2-3 record in his last 5 fights.
