WBA featherweight champ Chris John (42-0, 22KOs) may defend his title in Monterrey, Mexico at the end of February. Mexican promoter Ignacio Huízar tells ESTO that John is interested in coming to Mexico to defend his crown. The fought would come against the winner of the upcoming bout between Mexican featherweights Ernesto Morales (17-3, 9KOs) and Fernando Torres (10-5, 9KOs).

According to Huízar, the WBA has labeled the Morales-Torres bout as an official eliminator. The number-one position in the WBA featherweight rankings is vacant. The records of Morales and Torres may not be entirely accurate. Many of the pro records of Mexican fighters that are found on websites such as Boxrec are incomplete due to difficulties with obtaining the information from the country.
