Brighton’s Chris Eubank Jr. defeated Nathan Decastro in the second round of their rematch at Brighton’s Metropole Hotel on Saturday night in what could have been his final amateur outing.  Chris wobbled his man with a straight right hand to hasten the referee’s intervention.  Prompting his father to confirm that his namesake may now move into the pro ranks.

“God willing he’s better than me, and I think he can be,” enthused Eubank Senior to Sky Sports News.  “I told him not to make the job difficult by fighting when it is easier to box.  He has still got a lot of work to do – I’m a hard taskmaster.”

“I am delighted with my performance.  I showed two sides by boxing and fighting.  I used my hooks more last time but showed straight punches (this time),” revealed Junior, who was floored by Decastro before winning a tight decision when they clashed in May.

Matchroom are believed to be in the hunt for the 22-year-old’s signature.  Eddie Hearn, their Group Managing Director and boxing figurehead, tells me that they are going to see what happens over the ‘next few months’ but also stated that they ‘have yet to begin talks’.

Chris won the WBO middle and super-middleweight titles under the stewardship of Hearn’s father, Barry.  Giving his all against the likes of Nigel Benn, Michael Watson and Carl Thompson before retiring in 1998 with a 45-5-2 (23) slate.
