As BoxingScene first reported Monday, Chris Eubank Jnr and Conor Benn have agreed terms and signed on the dotted line for their drawn-out grudge match.
It is expected to take place on April 26 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, though the date and venue have yet to be officially confirmed.
They were due to meet in October 2022, at a catchweight of 157lbs, before news broke of Benn twice testing positive for banned substance clomifene in the build-up and the contest was scrapped at the 11th hour.
Benn, 23-0 (14 KOs), has this time agreed for the weight limit to be 160lbs, despite him never fighting in the middleweight ranks. Though he’s ranked by all four sanctioning bodies at welterweight, he weighed 153.5 and 150.5 for points wins over Rodolfo Orozco and Peter Dobson respectively. Due to a long battle to clear his name of drug charges, the 28-year-old Benn has been inactive since going 12 with Dobson in February last year.
Seven years his rival’s senior at 35, Eubank Jnr – a natural middleweight who will be the fight’s A-side on the promotional posters and trailers – has returned to form of sorts in his most recent outings. A surprise fourth-round stoppage loss to Liam Smith in January 2023 was avenged in 10 sessions eight months later. A 13-month hiatus followed before, in October last year, he halted fringe contender Kamil Szeremeta inside seven to take his record to 34-3.
Upon the signing of the contracts, Eubank posted on his socials: “@conorbennofficial just signed his own death sentence.” Benn retorted with, “You are done @ChrisEubankJr”.
Turki Alalshikh, the Saudi paymaster who is staging the contest, has promised to “push to make PPV price 19.99 for the fans… wait for a huge announcement soon.”
