BoxingScene.com reached out to Henry Ramirez who trains heavyweight contender Chris "The Nightmare" Arreola to get his thoughts on the Mexican American's upcoming fight versus Nagy Aguilera. The fight takes place on May 14 in Carson, CA on the undercard of the Andre Ward versus Arthur Abraham Super Six semi-final.
As we were close to the end of the interview Ramirez asked me, "Aren't you going to ask me about his (Chris) weight? Everyone always wants to know. I know you are going to ask (laughing)."
I told Ramirez that the weight question was going to be one of my last questions and the fact that he was offering to talk about it must mean that Chris is headed in the right direction.
"He weighed 244 when we got out of the gym this morning. By fight night he will in the mid to low 230s without a doubt."
Arreola weighed as much as 262 for his fight versus Brian Minto.
Ramirez attributes the weight loss to the fact that Arreola is working harder in camp and not taking any shortcuts. He said that the heavyweight contender had a lot of distractions outside of the ring and that is what led to subpar performances in the ring.
"Chris is working hard. He isn't taking any shortcuts in camp. He had a lot of turmoil in previous camps. He doesn't have those issues anymore. Chris is very fast in camp. People will see his speed on May 14th."
Full interview to follow soon.
