Los Angeles, CA – Two of the fastest rising prospects in the heavyweight division “Fast” Eddie Chambers and Cristobal “The Nightmare” Arreola – will be featured in separate bouts on ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights on February 9, 2007.
Presented by Goossen Tutor Promotions in association with Final Forum and Score Promotions, the telecast will be staged at the Ammerman Campus Field House of Suffolk County Community College in Selden, Long Island, New York.
In the scheduled 12-round main event, Chambers (27-0, 15 KOs), of Homewood, PA, and training out of Philadelphia, will take on another unbeaten heavyweight, Derric Rossy (15-0, 9 KOs) of Medford, NY, in a battle for the USBA Heavyweight title.
Chambers, 24, a recent addition to the Goossen Tutor boxing stable, has impressed the boxing establishment with his lightning fast and accurate punching prowess, which has racked up 15 knockouts and an unblemished record. Trained by his father, Eddie Sr., Chambers established himself as a fan favorite at the famous Blue Horizon in Philadelphia where he won all 17 of his bouts in the legendary arena. In his 24th pro fight, “Fast” Eddie won the IBU and Vacant Pennsylvania State Heavyweight titles by unanimous decision over the tough and durable Robert Hawkins – in his only 12-round bout to date. He subsequently decisioned Andrew Greeley before stopping Ed Mahone and back in August, his last outing of 2006, he KO’d the upset king, Domonic Jenkins.
He faces a tough opponent in the 26-year-old Rossy, who holds the New York State Heavyweight title. Rossy won the title with a TKO over Gary Bell in just his 10th pro bout in February 2006. Rossy closed the year in December with his sixth straight 2006 victory against another KO victim, Edward Gutierrez in the fourth round of a non-title tilt.
Another rising Goossen Tutor prospect is heavyweight contender, Cristibol Arreola (18-0, 16 KOs), who is scheduled to open the ESPN2 telecast against the heavy-handed banger from Cincinnati, Ohio, Zakeem Graham (10-1-1, 7 KOs).
The hard-hitting knockout artist Arreola, displaying a newly toned and trimmer physique, burst into the consciousness of boxing fans worldwide with his devastating knockout victory over then-unbeaten Damian Wills on the November 4, 2006 Mayweather-Baldomir undercard in Las Vegas. The 25-year-old Riverside, CA product -- whose goal is to someday become the first Mexican world heavyweight champion -- has stopped his last six opponents.
The 36-year old Graham, known as “Showtime” has faced Ruslan Chagaev, the #1 heavyweight world contender in the WBA and in his most recent bout, a victory over Maurice Wheeler.
“We are very excited to showcase the entertaining talents of Eddie Chambers and Cristobal Arreola to the worldwide ESPN television audience,” promoter Dan Goossen said. “These two undefeated fighters represent the future of the heavyweight division. And that future is not far off. We expect 2007 to be a big year for both of them.”
