BoxingScene.com was advised by several people that heavyweight contender Chris Arreola is looking very good in training camp. I spoke to one source who spent two hours in his camp last night at Joe Goossen's Ten Goose Gym in Van Nuys, California. I hear Arreola looked fit and toned. The person who I spoke with this morning was very surprised when trainer Henry Ramirez told him that Arreola was around 260-pounds.
My source told me Arreola definitely looked lighter and in much better condition than he appeared in his last few fights. Ramirez expects Arreola to be around 245-pounds by the time the fight with Vitali Klitschko comes around on September 26. I've heard a few inaccurate stories about Arreola slacking off and intentionally not showing up to camp. I've confirmed with more than one person that Arreola recently came down with the flu and needed a day or two to recover.
Last night, Arreola got in some tough sparring, going nine rounds in total with rugged journeyman Cisse Salif (23-15, 21KOs), undefeated contender Malik Scott (32-0, 11KOs) and the 6'8 Lance Whitaker (34-5, 28KOs). I heard Arreola's stamina was in top form. He didn't get tired and threw just as many punches in the ninth round as he did in the first. Arreola should be stepping up to twelve round sparring sessions by next week.
